Spotify Updates Its Home Screen With New Discovery

August 12, 2022

To refresh our home interface, Shoptify redesigned the Spotify mobile experience about a year ago. Since then, Spotify users have had easier access to their favorite content—and perhaps even discovered something new right from their home screen. However, the simplicity and discovery do not stop there. This month, it’ll be announcing a series of changes that will make the Home experience even more personal for each and every listener.

Shopify was always looking for ways to improve our user experience. With this latest update, we’ll be making a number of changes to the mobile Home hub that will make finding the music you love easier and faster. These will be available to iOS and Android users worldwide beginning this month.

If you prefer to listen to podcasts over music on Spotify, you can read the episode summaries that appear as soon as you click on the Podcasts & Shows tab. Additionally, you can start listening to the episodes without leaving the page by saving them to Your Episodes.

Spotify is overhauling its app’s home page by establishing separate feeds for music and podcasts. Through an upcoming update to Home, users will also have access to a gateway to great content they’ll enjoy, such as podcasts that will get them thinking.

The new home page will have two distinct tabs for “Music” and “Podcasts & Shows” in the top left corner of the screen. The Music tab, which you can access by tapping it, will direct you to the music you’ve been listening to as well as provide playlist and artist suggestions based on the genres you listen to the most. Your favorite podcasts’ most recent episodes are available right away in the Podcast & Shows tab, along with recommendations for new ones.

If you prefer to read the episode summaries that appear as soon as you click on the Podcasts & Shows tab, you can listen to podcasts on Spotify over music. By saving the episodes to Your Episodes, you can begin listening to them without leaving the page.

The new function was created to give listeners more suggestions, but it was also put in place to tidy up the muddle brought on by combining music and podcasts in one place. The library page employs a similar system for classifying music and podcasts, but it has a few extra tabs, such as Playlists, Artists, Albums, and Downloaded, which can make it challenging to find the content you’re looking for right now. It’s good to see that the app is becoming a little more organised, even if the home page tabs don’t necessarily save us more taps.

The Home hub has something for everyone, whether you want to replay some of your favorites, pick up where you left off, or discover something new.

  • Travel back in time: You can rediscover forgotten gems in your listening history with a new “Recently played” location that allows users to travel back in time and browse up to three months’ worth of listening history. Global Premium and Free users will be able to browse recently played songs, episodes, and the playlists, albums, and shows from which they originated.
  • Discover more music: Global Premium subscribers won’t miss a single song from their favorite artists. On top of the Home hub, a new surface will be highlighted with discovery-oriented suggestions that are current, relevant, and responsive to your preferences.
  • Jump into new and unfinished podcasts: Global Premium subscribers can access recent and relevant podcast episodes directly from the Home hub. Newly released episodes will have a blue dot next to them, and episodes you’ve already started will have a progress bar showing how far you’ve gotten.

Final Thoughts

Together, these updates, according to Shoptify, will increase your users’ ability to access music and podcast content on their mobile devices. To meet the needs of our users, we’ll keep modifying and improving our platform in order to give our listeners everywhere the best audio experience. Alkye, as a technology business partner to our clients, always recommends market changes. We also advise our clients to upgrade their technology and consider market changes in order to help their businesses grow and take market share from their competitors.
